Zero Acre Farms is seeking an associate engineer to support development and commercialization of new products. As a member of the Process Development and Scale Up team, the successful candidate will support and execute experiments in the Down Stream Processing (DSP) Laboratory, as well as provide support for process development across scales, transfer of processes between sites, and initial manufacturing.

Key duties include:

• Performing hands-on DSP experimentation at lab scale to support commercially-scalable process definition and development
• Analyzing test samples and/or preparing and shipping samples for external analysis
• Interfacing with other Zero Acre teams, such as Fermentation, Bioanalytical, etc. to successfully execute experiments and evaluate results
• Keeping organized records of experimental data
• Supporting Zero Acre test work at external organizations, if necessary
• Support expansion of DSP laboratory capabilities as needed, including setting up and troubleshooting equipment and authoring SOPs.
• Maintaining a clean, operable, and organized DSP Lab

Job Requirements:

• BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or relevant field
• Proven excellence and high achievement in previous technical and non-technical work
• Rigorous attention to detail in experimental preparation, execution, and documentation
• Ability to operate or experience in operating a range of laboratory-scale unit operations such as centrifugation, distillation, drying, evaporation, extraction, filtration, etc.
• Familiarity with basic statistical concepts
• Knowledge of chemical engineering principles
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Desire to work in a fast-moving team-based environment
• Ability to be an adaptive, resourceful, and quick learner
• Ability to travel 0-15% of time, if necessary

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• Up to 2 years of industry lab experience
• Basic familiarity with fermentation and biochemical processes

Basic understanding of any analytical methods, including NMR, liquid and gas chromatography, titration, DSC, etc.
