About the Role

Lightship’s mission to modernize and electrify RVs demands that we build a powerhouse team of designers and engineers that can model effectively and efficiently. As the CAD Design Lead, you will be vital in helping to design a world class RV, through direct ideation of designs, managing a small team of designers, and helping to manage our CAD systems and databases.

Responsibilities

- Support engineering and design teams with CAD models and drawings of components within the RV
- Manage the top level RV CAD assembly
- Hire and manage a small team of CAD designers to further augment the modeling capabilities of the design and engineering teams
- Support and maintain our CAD system and file database, including vendor management
- Help to train and on-board new CAD users
- Create appropriate standards, processes and workflows for data releases

Prior Experience & Professional Qualities

- 10+ years of mechanical design experience, electric vehicle experience preferred
- Experience managing CAD designers
- Experience being CAD system and database administrator
- Proven experience designing for multiple forms of high volume manufacturing methods (stampings, castings, injection molding, machining, weldments, etc)
- Knowledge in full product development cycle preferred: design, development, test, manufacturing
- Experience guiding decisions surrounding complex mechanical tradeoffs
- Experience creating complex CAD models and drawings with plastics and metal parts. Experience with GD&T required
- Prioritization of mechanical design work based on effort and risk
