Parallel Systems is an early-stage startup company developing the future of intermodal transportation. Our mission is to decarbonize freight while improving supply chain logistics and safety. We are developing vehicles and software to create new autonomous and electric transportation systems for existing rail infrastructure.
At Parallel Systems, we value the team as much as the mission. We want to work with talented people that are humble, motivated, and persistent. Our most successful team members are self-starters and collaborate with others to reach our collective goals.
We’re looking for a CAD designer to support the engineering team by producing 3d models and drawings in SolidWorks. In this role you’ll work with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and production staff to develop new designs, document existing designs, and refine product systems, and basic familiarity with engineering principles.
- Create 3D models of new parts and assemblies based on descriptions, sketches, and rough models created by engineers.
- Update 3D models to reflect as-build conditions.
- Create accurate 3D models of purchased components.
- Create 2D specification drawings for parts and assemblies.
- Follow modeling and drawing standards, propose improvements to standards when appropriate, and educate other CAD users on compliance with standards.
- Maintain large assemblies to ensure reliability, stability, and optimum performance.
- Maintain Bills of Materials, synchronization with ERP databases, and other metadata accurately.
- Model tolerances, interference, and other geometric studies in SolidWorks.
- Export and package models as required for use by vendors or other outside parties.
- Review models for accuracy and validity to prepare them for engineers to perform analysis and simulation.
- 5+ years of experience in a role that involved drafting, modeling, and/or engineering.
- Experience with SolidWorks parametric modeling.
- Experience managing large, complex assemblies with multiple collaborators.
- Familiarity with ASME drawing standards and GD&T principles.
- Experience drawing metal parts and assemblies for production and working familiarity with techniques including machining, casting, sheet metal forming, and welding.
- 10+ years of experience modeling and drawing mechanical parts.
- Familiarity with setup of FEA simulations and motion studies.
- SolidWorks certifications such as CSWE-Mechanical Design, CSWP-Mechanical Design, CSWPA-DT
- Experience making 2D drawings that have been used in production by in-house and subcontracted production staff.
- Experience drawing electronic assemblies for manufacturing and familiarity with PCBA fabrication processes.
- Experience modeling and drawing precision mechanical components such as gears and splines.
- Experience modeling or drawing high voltage electronics assemblies such as battery packs, motors, or inverters.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple projects.
