Position Overview

This position, in the CAD team, will play a critical role in releasing new battery components and assemblies as a part of the broader Battery Engineering team at Proterra. The primary objective is to enable Proterra to meet its ambitious business goals through clean, timely design releases.

About the Role – You will:

  • Create, modify and manage top-level Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM) data for our battery product assemblies.
  • Analyze and cross-check EBOM to CAD BOM – parts, quantities, content and variant management between Catia/Enovia & Arena Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
  • Review engineering change orders for accuracy, following change management processes
  • Continue to help our department grow from a file based management environment to data-driven in our PLM 2.0 Project
  • Help establish best practice methodologies and guidelines for CAD/PDM/PLM use
  • Collaborate and communicate with management and other internal groups regarding design status, project progress, requirement clarification and issue resolution
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance on work methods and procedures to less experienced personnel engaged in related work
  • Ensure proper part/EBOM standards are followed to support part naming, numbering and attribute set up including Unit of Measure, Part Weight, Customer Part Numbers, Make/Buy designation and others deemed critical
  • Ensure rules of interchangeability are properly followed to define when parts are revised or when a new part number needs to be assigned to support Quality or Materials Management needs.
  • Support the broader interests, work, and priorities of the Battery Engineering team as needs arise
  • Provide IT support to troubleshoot, evaluate, and choose software updates, additions, customizations and improvements for PLM tools and roles
  • Apply configuration rules, variant filters and effectivity to Engineering Items

- You will report to the CAD Team Manager and collaborate with other Engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles, CA and Greenville, SC.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Relevant experience in BOM management
  • Proficient with computers and software, such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong understanding of change control, PDM (EPDM, Enovia, etc) and PLM (Arena, etc) tools, workflows and approval routing.
  • Knowledge of CAD, 2D drafting, materials, specifications and manufacturing process
  • Familiar with the product development cycle – concept, design, development, test, & production
  • Methodical and diligent thinker and a desire to work with a strong sense of quality and craft

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates or higher degree in Drafting and Design, Engineering (or related field)
  • Experience in similar industry designing highly configurable products
  • Knowledge of the application and interpretation of GD&T principles
  • Understanding of energy storage systems architecture, and/or commercial bus, heavy truck, automotive or vehicle systems designs (mechanical, electrical, and thermal aspects)
