Role Description

Heliogen is a renewable energy technology company focused on eliminating the need for fossil fuels in heavy industry and powering a sustainable future. The company’s AI-enabled, modular concentrated solar technology aims to cost-effectively deliver near 24/7 carbon-free energy in the form of heat, power, or green hydrogen fuel at scale – for the first time in history.

You Aspire To:

Design, fabricate, assemble, and/or operate test fixtures and systems in an industrial R&D environment in order to develop Heliogen’s concentrated solar power technologies. You will work with engineers to develop schematics for experimental fixtures, and design and execute test campaigns to generate relevant data. This is a highly hands-on role, primarily based in Long Beach, CA, with occasional travel to field sites in southern CA, and Albuquerque, NM (overnight travel <10%).

What's Essential:

  • 2-5 years of technical experience in an industrial or laboratory R&D setting
  • Familiarity with hazard analysis and safe work practices in an industrial environment
  • Operating and maintaining various pieces of mechanical and/or electrical equipment
  • Familiarity with various measurement and inspection tools and techniques (calipers, thermocouples, strain gauges, etc.)
  • Familiarity with basic hand and power tools
  • Able to use office productivity software (MS Office, Jira/Confluence, etc.)

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience designing and integrating automated data collection systems – Campbell Scientific, National Instruments/LabView, etc.
  • Experience with 2D/3D modeling (Solidworks preferred)
  • Experience with high temperature systems (greater than 500 C/900 F)
  • Bulk materials handling experience
  • Familiar with concentrated solar power
  • Experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment
  • Technical certifications relevant to the role and your experience level
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs

Heliogen was created at Idealab, the leading technology incubator founded by Bill Gross in 1996.
