Research / Academia
REMOTE

Role Description

We're working on a challenging and incredibly exciting mission: to bring cultured meat to market! Understanding the biology of stem cells, and how they change during cell aging, is critical to solving this problem.

We are currently looking for an ambitious PhD-level scientist to join our team of cell biologists. As a member of our friendly and dedicated team, you will help to understand and optimise the culture of muscle-derived stem cells for downstream use in cultured beef production.

What you can achieve

  • Be a crucial part of bringing cultured meat to market, having a massive positive impact on the world.
  • Collaborate with a friendly, international team of world-class scientists and engineers in a fast-paced and exciting start-up environment.
  • Gain experience and expertise in a wide range of different cell and molecular biology techniques.
  • Develop and hone your skills of scientific thinking, analysis and communication.

Your role

  • Design and perform experiments related to the proliferation and differentiation of bovine muscle and fat stem cells, both independently and in collaboration with other team members.
  • Collect, analyse, interpret and present experimental data.
  • Mentor and supervise Junior Scientists and Technicians, both in terms of experimental design and practical techniques.
  • Give critical feedback and contribute new ideas and suggestions in scientific discussions at the team and company-levels.
  • Assist in the smooth day-to-day running of the laboratory.

Our ideal future team member

  • Academic background (recently obtained PhD, or equivalent experience) in a biological or biomedical subject (essential).
  • Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique (essential), although no specific knowledge of bovine, muscle or fat cell culture is required.
  • Experience or interest in stem cell biology (essential).
  • Previous experience with high-throughput screening (desirable).
  • Previous experience with flow cytometry and/or RNA sequencing (desirable).
  • Passionate about our mission, and excited about working in a commercial start-up environment.
  • A hardworking, organised and dedicated team-player, looking for personal growth and willing to help others do the same.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (minimum B2 level English).
  • Ability to commence soon (desirable).
  • Permission to work in the EU (desirable).

What we have for you!

We are a medium-sized team working on an innovation that we believe will have a huge global impact. As part of this exciting project, you will get to:

  • Enjoy an enterprising work culture with lots of freedom in your projects, and tons of opportunities to progress your scientific career.
  • Combine fascinating science with a clear commercial goal.
  • Work in the beautiful, historical city of Maastricht.
  • Enjoy highly flexible working hours.
  • Enjoy 25 days of paid leave per year.
  • As part of a competitive remuneration package, receive a bonus plan similar to stock options (called Stock Appreciation Rights - SARs).

We really look forward to hearing about you. Please submit your application by 3rd June, and we will be in touch with you shortly! If you have any questions, you can reach out to the hiring manager for this position, Dr. Joshua Flack; joshua@mosameat.com.
