ZeroAvia is a leader in zero-emission aviation, flying the world's largest hydrogen-electric aircraft since September 2020. Its focus is the design and commercialization of hydrogen-powered aviation solutions to address a variety of markets, initially targeting short-haul, sub-regional commercial flights up to 500 miles that will be commercially available by 2024. ZeroAvia’s powertrain development focuses on integrating hydrogen storage tanks, fuel cell systems, and electric motors, delivering a solution that will be not only without carbon emissions but also cheaper to operate. Commercialising the solution requires the establishment of a new clean aviation ecosystem, encompassing hydrogen production from renewable energy sources and tackling public perception of safety. ZeroAvia has raised $60m+ in VC funding to date, and has an exciting future ahead.

Role

The Grants Manager will be responsible for acquiring support for ZeroAvia’s future project pipeline from the various government funded programs in the UK. The role therefore sits at the intersection of ZeroAvia’s internal technical and financial teams, ZeroAvia’s technology development partners, and the government stakeholders overseeing its programs. ZeroAvia’s project pipeline is diverse and targeted at supporting ZeroAvia’s 2024 market entry date, e.g., by demonstrating its technology with airlines, as well as at its technology development into larger propulsion systems. The Grants Manager will work with the Head of Programs to scan the market for public funding opportunities, work with governments, technology and demonstration partners to scope those, write applications to those programs, and pull in ZeroAvia’s team to complete the required technical and commercial groundwork.

Responsibilities

• Managing the funnel of public funding opportunities for ZeroAvia in the UK, including:
  • Identification of new funded programs
  • Identification of internal projects that could benefit from such funding
  • Down Selection to specific programs
  • Building the respective consortium for submission
  • Writing the bid and coordinating inputs – internally and externally
  • Project setup phases
• Communicate proactively and engage with potential future public funding opportunities – join events, present ZeroAvia’s ambition, identify best partners
• Coordinate approvals with the ZeroAvia leadership team and lead those reviews
• Contribute to and develop best practices and execution standards

Knowledge, experience and qualifications

• A high degree of ownership for project delivery – proven track record. This includes demonstrable problem solving skills, the ability to adapt to issues as they arise, and provide solutions
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, proven in working in teams w/ technical and non-technical members and building rapport with those
• At least 2 years experience in building complex project consortia, ideally having been involved in the bid writing or the bid assessment process on the funder side
• Experience in working with governmental bodies is beneficial
• Formal qualification, ideally in Engineering, Aerospace, Science, or Business
• Flexible approach to work and a high level of drive and ambition to help achieve the organisation’s goals
• A genuine passion for clean technology and the future of electric aviation
• A high level of attention to detail and professional integrity
• Ability to work on multiple programmes with varying levels of requirements efficiently and effectively
• Experience with common project management tools as well as with standard Microsoft Office applications
