Role Description

Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive Information Technology Architecture and advanced engineering support to Proterra’s Director of IT & Infrastructure Engineering and other technology leadership team members. As the Cloud Architect, you will be required to design or update architectural patterns for a cloud strategy that complies with Proterra’s enterprise security standards and practices. As an Architect you will act as a senior leader within the organization helping to adopt secure cloud solutions by thoroughly documenting recommendations and plans while aligning available cloud solution against strategy and financial goals of the organization. As an IT Practitioner, you will ensure that all developed solutions account for Service Delivery and Service Operations with the planning and engineering of its cloud computing infrastructure and applications. This role is responsible for designing, building scalable and maintainable applications on a clouded infrastructure within Amazon Web Services. This role requires in depth understanding of cloud architecture and cloud services provided by AWS, hybrid cloud architectures and building infrastructure as code. Some familiarity with Azure is a “nice to have” but not necessary.

Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of cloud technology, including Software as Service (SaaS), Platform as Service (PaaS), or Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Understand customers' overall applications portfolio, IT and business priorities and success measures to design implementation architectures and solutions. Architect solutions to meet business and IT needs, ensuring technical viability of new projects and successful deployments, while orchestrating key resources and infusing key Infrastructure technologies as appropriate. Ensure all solutions exhibit high levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability and appropriate reusability and reliability upon deployment.

Build positive and effective working relationships with key customers and IT decision makers, who drive long-term cloud adoption within the agency to enable them to be cloud advocates. Ensure adherence to program documentation and procedural standards and management goals and objectives.

About the Role – You will:

  • Lead the architecture and evolution of highly available, highly scalable, and highly secure hybrid-cloud environments, driving them from concept to launch, and beyond.
  • Support infrastructure needs for manufacturing systems tied to Proterra’s advanced manufacturing environments through engineering and architected technology environments.
  • Automate infrastructure using modern coding and DevOps practices support cloud environments and serve as the infrastructure cloud engineer and architect consultant to a high-performing DevOps and SecOps teams.
  • Enhance Enterprise Security Infrastructure processes, solutions and protocols
  • Drive automation and orchestration efforts with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Cloud Formation)
  • Direct hands-on experience leading the design, development and deployment of business software at scale or recent hands-on technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization experience
  • Have experience with software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile/iterative methodologies
  • Experience with integration of cloud services with on-premise technologies from Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, HP, SAP etc a plus.
  • Implement IT compliance and risk management requirements (eg. Security, Privacy, SOX, HIPAA PCI and PII etc.)
  • Scripting and/or coding skills (Examples include but are not limited to: Java (OR) Python (OR) CloudFormation (OR) Terraform (OR) Powershell (OR) Bash)
  • Build modern cloud infrastructure automation capabilities, AI-Operations for manufacturing
  • Document necessary technology architecture design and analysis work, possibly including project postmortem documentation and metric collection.
  • Derive the Future-State Technology Architecture, and analyze and evaluate network technology.
  • Drive digital innovation by leveraging innovative technologies and approaches to renovate, extend, and transform the existing core technology base and IT estate.
  • Build networking roadmaps and site plans.
  • Define high-level migration plans to address the gaps between the future and current state, typically in sync with the IT budgeting or other capital planning processes.
  • Intake project requests and design architecture to support business requirements.
  • Guide technology investment decisions based on analysis and evaluation to drive targeted business outcomes while ensuring nonfunctional requirements are met.
  • Build out cost models for implementation of architecture, one time and sustaining
  • Lead project initiatives and delivery of successful project outcomes.
  • Maintain architectural diagrams and reference models.
  • Support operation teams as T3 escalation group for incident response.
  • Assist with designing the governance, assurance and standards activities associated with ensuring enterprise technology architecture compliance of projects and products.
  • Identify the organizational impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures and culture) and financial impact of the enterprise technology architecture. Your Experience Includes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, electrical engineering or Management Information Systems with 10 years of related information technology infrastructure experience, or 12 years of consecutive IT experience with recognized industry certifications.
  • Technical experience and knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Windows Server and Linux
  • Strong knowledge of implementing infrastructure as code and operational runbooks
  • Strong knowledge of implementing CI/CD and SRE practices
  • Technical knowledge experience and knowledge of AWS (Aurora, RDS, EC2, VPC, IAM), Kubernetes, Jenkins, Terraform
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with Cloud Service Providers (Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing full stack applications
  • Proven documentation skills and ability to write policies, procedures, and instructions
  • Ability to be hands on and technical to support systems and infrastructure
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Desired:
One or more Infrastructure and Cloud Certifications
- AWS Certifications, Solutions Architect Associate, AWS Solutions Architect Professional preferred or combination of AWS Associates Certificates.
