Position Overview
The Controls Software Validation Engineer will provide comprehensive support to the Proterra Software Development team. This position reports to the HV Controls and Integration Manager. This position will be responsible for completing validation activities focused on charging and battery systems at a vehicle level.
About the Role – You will:
- Create standardized test plans to be performed at the vehicle level on each software release.
- Generate validation documentation for each software release that can be shared externally with Proterra partners.
- Work with the Proterra Validation team to schedule test time and perform validation activities at the Proterra Test Track.
- Coordinate with charger manufacturers to perform interoperability testing on-site at Proterra facilities and off-site at the vendors.
- Participate in interoperability conferences to ensure Proterra products works with various charger manufacturers.
- Create test plans to perform validation of functional and technical software requirements.
- Capture test results in Proterra tools to ensure traceability of requirements throughout the development process.
- Participate in FMEA discussions to identify hazards and assess risk of system operation.
- Communicate with Hardware-In-The-Loop Test Team to determine appropriate tests to be completed off vehicle in the HIL environment.
- Ensure proper diagnostic coverage and response of safety related requirements for the battery and charging systems.
- Procure equipment such as breakout boxes to enable fault injection testing of the various systems.
- Other duties as assigned by management.

Your Experience Includes
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline, Master’s degree a plus.
- 1-2 years of engineering experience with the transportation or heavy vehicle industry.
- Working knowledge of classical and modern control theory.
- Experience with electric vehicle technology.
- Experience with requirements tracking tools such as Jama or Doors a plus.
- Experience developing control software development process, development of control software for production devices and integrating electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience with embedded software using Simulink environment.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Experience with MatLab/Simulink and/or Python.
- Knowledge of CAN communications.
