Job Description

As Director of Grid Services at Stem Programs you will have overall responsibilities for the successful operations of Stem’s program team in building and executing on Stem’s utility contracts, and demand response and wholesale market programs in our western region.

This leadership position includes overseeing the project planning, portfolio analysis, contract compliance, risk assessment, reporting, and settlement of our program and market operations. We’re looking for a candidate that demonstrates a blend of management, technical, and business expertise. You should be comfortable working with all departments within the company from Sales to Product Development to NOC and Data Science, along with external utility and ISO partners. You will report into the Vice President, Program and Customer Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the utility and grid service team in managing the cross-functional delivery of program commitments, and ensuring compliance with program rules and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborating with cross-functional internal stakeholders to ensure the team executes program implementation plans
  • Identifying and communicating program risks and solution gaps, designing, and implementing mitigation strategies
  • Overseeing asset registration and settlement transactions associated with program delivery, including timely program invoicing and payments
  • Establishing and continuously improving scalable processes for execution and reporting on existing contracts and markets
  • Ensuring documentation of program business requirements in collaborating with product team to develop operational tools and capabilities
  • Overseeing and driving quantitative analysis to inform strategic market and program portfolio decisions
  • Overseeing asset registration and settlement transactions associated with program delivery, including timely program invoicing and payments
  • Leading and goal setting for the team of program managers and program analysts
  • Supporting expansion of new value streams in existing markets, as well other company expansion efforts into new markets and programs, as needed
  • Supporting Contracts team in drafting and reviewing contract language that aligns with our services offering and strategies.in the applicable markets
  • Willingness to work as individual contributor as required on occasion

Required Skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize accordingly

  • Superb verbal and written communication, team collaboration, and organizational skills,
  • Enthusiasm for working in a fast-pace, hard-charging, collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated adaptability and desire to continually learn and challenge oneself
  • Strong attention to detail and sense of responsibility
  • Experience in developing and/or analyzing complex financial models a plus

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline is required – Majors in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or Finance are preferred.
  • 10-15 years of relevant experience in the energy industry or with utilities, preferably in wholesale electricity markets and/or demand response programs with energy market fundamentals well-understood
  • Experience in the market structure and protocols of multiple ISO’s is beneficial, with experience in power scheduling, power trading, and portfolio management a plus.
