Position Overview

This leadership role at Proterra, reporting directly to the CIO, will help the CIO transform IT into a true business-oriented organization. This position is responsible for managing the office of the CIO (OCIO), providing leadership for the cross-functional management of information and technology across the enterprise. This role will oversee IT strategy, delivering key transformations, governance, performance management, communications and the definition of IT ways of working (for example, common methodologies, processes, and tools for developing and operating IT), including but not limited to, the IT PMO, Vendor Management Office, IT Procurement and IT Financial Performance.

This position focuses on ensuring that the IT organization "does the right things" through strategy and governance, as well as "doing things right" through organizational and operational model development and performance management. This person will help the CIO execute the IT transformation to help Proterra to move from a ‘Start Up’ to a ‘Scale Up’ mode. Key responsibilities include:

  • Own and Lead all Transformation programs for IT
  • Lead the Transformation of IT into a business oriented, BU aligned partner
  • Own and lead all strategic programs and initiatives for IT
  • Lead the Program Mgmt., Vendor Mgmt. and Procurement Mgmt functions
  • Lead all Portfolio planning, prioritizing and execution for IT
  • Lead a team of 5 programs managers and transformation leaders
  • Execute a portfolio of $10M+ in new programs and initiatives in 2022

About the Role – You will:

  • Partners with the CIO in providing technology vision and direction for the enterprise.
  • Is responsible for driving focus and prioritization within the IT organization through establishing strategic planning and governance principles and processes.
  • Manages the team of people who make up the office of the CIO.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of IT policies, procedures, methodologies, and governance — as well as performance management frameworks and metrics — to ensure the IT organization delivers value to the enterprise.
  • Oversee the execution of high-impact, enterprise wide, strategic programs or initiatives.
  • Will be responsible for developing and managing strategic vendor and partnership relationships.
  • Works with the CIO and business leadership teams, providing broad insight to IT domains and capabilities in support of enterprise wide business decisions.
  • Establishes and implements continuous-improvement programs for the IT organization.
  • Stays current with developments in new market trends and innovations in technology and the leadership of enterprise IT.
  • Drives and facilitates effective collaboration and communications between the IT organization and the user and customer communities.
  • Is responsible for directing the preparation, review and consolidation of business plans and budgets for the IT organization.
  • Regularly review IT costs and cost structures for IT services and products so that the financial implications of IT projects and activities are communicated to the proper IT and business executives.

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • Must be able to demonstrate past success leading and growing a large organization
  • Excellent communication skills and an affinity for collaboration
  • Experience driving organizational change and strong data-driven decision making
  • Ability to build business wide prioritization processes
  • Create, collect, and distribute metrics that clearly demonstrate the business value of IT through.
  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources may not be in direct control of this role.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills.
  • Strong business acumen, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and its business units.
  • Expertise in budget planning and financial management.

  • You will work with vendors and managed service providers that support IT and other groups.
