Role Description

Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive support to Proterra’s Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) department and will lead program management of new manufacturing processes and automation equipment. This highly collaborative position is a key part of the Battery Technology organization. The ideal candidate will work with other leaders, engineers, and technicians to establish Proterra as a world-class manufacturer of battery-based energy storage. This role will report to the Director of Advanced Manufacturing within the Battery Engineering Organization and collaborate with other team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facilities in Greenville, SC and Los Angeles, CA.

About the Role – You Will:

  • Support the advanced manufacturing engineering team in development of new processes & equipment to allow Proterra to grow battery production capacity.
  • Act as the main point of contact for manufacturing equipment and process improvement projects from concept through equipment launch.
  • Establish project requirements and scope.
  • Develop and communicate project plans and schedules.
  • Manage and report on project costs.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure projects stay on schedule.
  • Track and drive closure to risk mitigations and open issues.
  • Work cross functionally with internal and external teams to ensure equipment development launch success.
  • Coordinate with launch team to ensure readiness for start of production milestone.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

About Our Group

  • The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering group seeks to develop innovative new manufacturing processes and automation tools to establish Proterra as a world leader in battery pack manufacturing. It is comprised of several different teams focused on different aspects of battery manufacturing, including process development and automated manufacturing equipment design.

Your Experience Includes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar technical field.
  • Experience in a manufacturing engineering role or similar technical role.
  • Experience managing a project with cost, safety, performance, and schedule metrics.
  • Demonstrated experience creating, maintaining and communicating schedules.
  • Experience managing external vendors in complex equipment development.
  • Hands on experience in high or low volume manufacturing environments.
  • Working understanding of manufacturing engineering metrics and concepts (Cycle time, quality control, efficiency, equipment selection, return on investment, etc.).
  • Experience with driving DFMEA process.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand and communicate tradeoffs between design, manufacturability, schedule and cost.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate/present complex technical concepts to non-technical teams, audience ranging from cross functional support individuals to executive leadership.
  • Knowledge of electric vehicle battery manufacturing, optional but preferred.
  • CAD/Catia Experience, optional but preferred.
  • Programming experience, optional but preferred.
