Role Description

Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive support to Proterra’s Logistics Manager and other site leadership team members. The Import/Export Specialist will facilitate the efficient and effective transportation flow of International transactions across the Proterra network. This role will work closely with materials managers, site directors, commodity managers, suppliers, sales and other key stakeholders in the Global Logistics process to develop and implement comprehensive Logistics strategies and synergies that align with Proterra’s core business initiatives. This role will also assist Global Trade Compliance initiatives with varied international logistics & trade-related tasks in support of company and department strategic initiatives.

About the Role – You will:

  • Collaborate with sourcing on international supplier initiatives or onboarding activities to support projects, align logistics and cost reduction strategies that support core business initiatives.
  • Coordinates the day to day administrative duties of the Import/Export process; reconciling freight invoices, customs documentation, fielding service calls and reporting/analysis.
  • Monitor Import/Export traffic (i.e. rail, air, sea, parcel, drop ship etc.), brokerage and Customs clearance. Communicate status and/or delays to appropriate parties.
  • Resolve shipment issues and possess the ability to determine when to elevate to management for resolution.
  • Participates in import/export compliance reviews and interfaces with brokers/freight forwarders to ensure proper declarations to government agencies.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, broker and other related parties to ensure all required documentation and shipping instructions have been received (i.e. document requirements, routing instructions, tariff codes, etc.) and align with purchase order or operational need.
  • Maintain Import and Export document files in accordance with Federal regulations and Company policy (i.e. record keeping). Identify import/export compliance risks and develop risk assessment measures.
  • Determines and maintains appropriate import/export classification (Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Schedule B, Export Control Classification Number etc.), country of origin and value information
  • Support import/export transactions as required for Assist Declarations, Antidumping and Countervailing Duties, Preferential trade agreements, Processing CF28/CF29, duty drawback, Carnets, USMCA certificate issuance or other FTA certifications, etc.
  • Lead projects to meet objectives and drive operational results (cost reduction and/or optimization/consolidation initiatives, process development, carrier resourcing activities, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • This position will be part of the Greenville based Supply Chain team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Greenville South Carolina.
  • You will report to the Logistics Manager and collaborate with other Supply Chain team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Los Angeles Ca.

Your Experience Includes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in management, supply chain or logistics a plus (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in international logistics, distribution, transportation, import/export and trade compliance related functions
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience importing/exporting from/to Europe, Asia, Central America, South America, Canada, Mexico
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems. Oracle preferred.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 7+ years’ experience of demonstrated performance and results; in the areas of international Logistics, Transportation, Distribution and/or other Supply Chain related functions.
  • 7+ years’ experience importing/exporting from/to Europe, Asia, Central America, Canada, Mexico
  • Brokerage license not required, but highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of incoterms, tariff classification, IATA & IMDG regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of FTA’s USMCA, AUSFTA, CAFTA, KORUS
  • Strong background in Continuous Improvement programs
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, reasoning, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and partnerships to collaboratively execute business strategies.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to creatively craft win-win scenarios with carriers in all modes.
  • Knowledge of various logistics, distribution and manufacturing processes, potential failure modes, and critical success factors.
  • Project management skills.
  • Some travel may be required.
