Position Overview
This position will provide comprehensive Information Technology Architecture and advanced engineering support to Proterra’s Director of IT & Infrastructure engineering and other technology leadership team members. As the Infrastructure Architect you will work with business and technology leadership product managers, domain architects and senior technologists to understand the holistic business strategy and then to identify, define and develop solution specific, cloud-native, IT architectures and product deliverables to support the company technology road map.
In this role, you will design and develop IT architecture (integrated process, applications, data, and technology) solutions to business problems in alignment with the enterprise architecture direction and standards. You will perform technical planning, participate heavily in project intake architecture development, and modification of specifications as well as develops specifications for new products, services and applications being introduced into Proterra for in-house use and customer facing. Work closely with our Project Management office to develop IT integration for the Information Technology project portfolio. This opportunity will also require that you assess the compatibility and integration of products and services proposed as standards in order to ensure an integrated architecture across interdependent technologies.
About the Role – You will:
- Architect Proterra’s growing landscape for compute, storage, network and cloud using modern best practices for automation, orchestration, and infrastructure as code.
- Work with our business partners to translate business requirements into technology solutions.
- Architect and implement projects in adherence to best practices, security and architectural standards.
- Establish, architect, engineer, and implement procedures and processes to improve the efficiency and the quality of infrastructure applications and systems.
- Build modern infrastructure automation capabilities, AI-Operations for manufacturing and cloud analytics platforms.
- Utilize in-depth knowledge of Infrastructure capabilities technologies such as Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, SCCM/MECM/OSD, OKTA, DNS, Terraform, Ansible GitLab, Jenkins, VMware, Horizon VDI, AWS, Azure, O365, Windows Server, Linux, etc. to identify, anticipate, manage, and resolve complex problems.
- Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for technology spending and initiatives as well as cost models for projects.
- Create/update documentation (support, administration, user-procedures, quick reference guides) for all projects and designs.
- Document necessary technology architecture design and analysis work, possibly including project postmortem documentation and metric collection.
- Assist with designing the governance, assurance and standards activities associated with ensuring enterprise technology architecture compliance of projects and products.
- Drive incubation and innovation projects including the prototyping and development of proof-of-concepts and delivery of new technology components and products to market research and implement services for high availability in all aspects of design and engineering.
- Automate infrastructure using modern coding and DevOps practices support cloud environments and serve as the infrastructure engineer consultant to a high-performing DevOps and SecOps teams.
- Drive future-state technology architecture, and analyze and evaluate infrastructure technology.
- Guide technology investment decisions based on analysis and evaluation to drive targeted business outcomes while ensuring nonfunctional requirements are met.
- Ensure decisions around architecture are made and deviations from standards are properly identified, addressed, and communicated.
- Build Infrastructure roadmaps and timelines, and high-level migration plans to address the gaps between the future and current state, typically in sync with the IT budgeting or other capital planning processes.
- Consult with client stakeholders and vendors on strategies for deployment of new infrastructure technology.
- Maintain architectural diagrams and reference models.
- Drive digital innovation by leveraging innovative technologies and approaches to renovate, extend, and transform the existing core technology base and IT estate.
- Implement Architectual changes into lower and upper environments with cross functional teams and identify impacts to people, process and technology.
- Demonstrate on-the-job experience with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
- Provide high level escalation support for engineering teams. Support operation teams as T3 escalation group for incident response.
- Support infrastructure needs for manufacturing systems tied to Proterra’s advanced manufacturing environments through engineering and architected technology environments.

Your Experience Includes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, electrical engineering or Management Information Systems with 10 years of related information technology infrastructure experience, or 12 years of consecutive IT experience with recognized industry certifications.
- Extensive experience in the development and implementation of computer systems and networks for on premise and cloud systems (Windows, Linux, Vmware, AWS, Azure)
- Technical experience and knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Windows Server, Linux, O365, VMware vCenter, Horizon VDI, SAML/SSO, IDAM tools, Terraform, Ansible, Enterprise Networking, Hyperconverged/Traditional Compute+SAN
- Strong knowledge of implementing infrastructure as code and operational runbooks
- Technical knowledge experience and knowledge of AWS (Aurora, RDS, EC2, VPC, IAM), Kubernetes, Jenkins, Terraform
- Proven documentation skills and ability to write policies, procedures, and instructions
- Ability to be hands on and technical to support systems and infrastructure
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Desired:
One or more Infrastructure and Cloud Certifications
- AWS Certifications, Solutions Architect Associate, AWS Solutions Architect Professional preferred or combination of AWS Associates Certificates.
- MSCE Core Infrastructure, MCSA 2012R2, 2016, 2019, MCP, MTA Security Fundamentals
- Cisco Certified Networking Associate, CCIE Cisco Enterprise Infrastructure preferred, CCNP Security or Data Center highly desirable.
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP7-CMA) a must.
- Network+, Security+, Linux+ or combination of similar certificates acceptable.
