Job Description

The Meat Program Associate is responsible for cutting, trimming, grinding, tying, and otherwise processing meat from larger, wholesale portions into retail-ready cuts such as steaks, roasts, grinds, sausage, etc. The Associate is also responsible for portioning, packing, and labeling in-house produced meat cuts and value-added meat products in preparation for retail sale. This person will also participate in value-added meat production, including the preparation of ingredients per provided recipes.
The work is physical, fast-paced, and requires a high attention to detail. A successful Meat Program Associate will maintain the highest standards for quality, cleanliness, food safety measures, and weighs and measures accurately. The Meat Program Associate reports to the Meat Provisioner and is a member of the FLH Supply Chain Team. While past experience with food service, particularly in meat and/or seafood, is preferred, we will provide training to the right person who demonstrates motivation and a willingness to learn.

About the Job

  • Cut, debone, grind, tie, and otherwise prepare all varieties and cuts of meat while operating tools safely
  • Portion and prepare ingredients for use in value-added products
  • Portion, pack, and label in-house meat cuts and products, with direction from the Meat Provisioner
  • Follow guidelines to maintain product freshness, trimming, and cutting standards
  • Clean equipment and work areas to maintain health and sanitation standards
  • Store and organize items in the correct warehouse location(s) at the correct temperatures
  • Ensure that all product labels reflect the accurate product names, ingredients, weights, and dates
  • Follow food safety protocols and practices
  • Assist with receiving, loading, and storing of incoming meat from local producers who supply our raw product
  • Maintain respectful and clear communication with local producers
  • Maintain clear and proactive communication with Meat Provisioner
  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to kitchen sanitation and warehouse maintenance

About You

  • Experience handling produce, meats, and other food products
  • Preferred: experience working in a professional kitchen
  • Comfortable working with sharp knives and meat processing equipment such as grinders and saws
  • Interested in learning and growing in a meat and butchery career pathway
  • Comfortable working in cold environments (we provide outerwear to keep you insulated when in freezer or chill)

Able to stand and work on your feet for extended hours Able to lift and carry heavy items (up to 40 lbs)

Proposed Schedule

This is a part-time position, starting with three morning 8-hour shifts per week (24 hours per week). We anticipate that as product volume increases, the schedule will flex up to full-time within the next 6 months. The schedule may shift as needed to support the business. Scheduled hours will fall within your availability, as communicated prior to starting the job (and which can be adjusted). Schedules are published two weeks in advance. Work may occur on weekends. Due to the operational nature of the role, we can not accommodate remote work for this position.

For those interested in a full-time position, we may be able to provide an additional two shifts per week to get to full-time (36-40hrs per week) as a member of our Fulfillment team. A Fulfillment Associate works in our warehouse and is responsible for receiving products from our local producers, checking product quality, weighing, repacking, picking orders, and loading trucks for delivery to our O‘ahu customers.

Compensation and Benefits

Farm Link Hawaiʻi offers a competitive compensation package based on the organization’s compensation philosophy. Pay for this position ranges from $16.80-21.00 per hour, depending on prior experience. Medical and dental insurance are provided at no cost. Paid time off is provided after passing the 90 day probationary period. Employees also have access to purchase discounted local products through our marketplace.
