What we do

Our revolutionary electric, ventless, zero-emissions commercial coffee roaster uses clean technology and does not require gas lines or expensive ventilation. It’s the most consistent and controllable roaster available, the lowest carbon footprint commercial roaster ever made, and was designed by coffee people who want a better future for coffee roasting. Our roasting platform allows Bellwether customers to easily source responsibly-grown green coffee from incredible farms around the world, expertly roast using artisan-crafted roast profiles (or create their own), and share fresh, delicious coffee just the way their customers like it.

About you

If building rock-solid software systems is what gets you up in the morning, this may be the role for you. The ideal candidate knows 10x engineering comes from the disciplined application of computer science principles, design patterns and relentless defensive programming. About the position

In this role, you will play a crucial nexus role between the platform engineering, control systems and the application delivery teams. Ingenuity will serve you well as you play a leading role in driving our internet-of-things middleware architecture.

Your influence on our software products will impact everything from manufacturing to operations and customer delight, pushing the limits of edge computing to build robust digital experiences for the company’s stakeholders. You will enjoy interfacing with a range of team members, from system engineers building firmware to mechanical engineers cracking the code on the thermodynamics of zero emissions.

Key Responsibilities – What success looks like

• Collaborate closely with application development teams to accelerate development via edge middleware services securely tying controls firmware and infrastructure software.
• Evolve our edge computing architecture to address the varying requirements of field engineers, security analysts, and data scientists among other stakeholders as we bring the joy of coffee roasting to all.
• Effectively communicate with cross-functional teams, ensuring a coherent understanding of system capabilities
• Research emerging technologies, anticipate technical needs and propose technical strategies to optimally compose our system based on in-house, open-source and commercially available tooling
• Elevate our engineering quality bar

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
• 6+ years of software engineering experience at technology-driven companies
• A love for coding, applying Python, Go, or Node as the shoe fits
• Can readily explain why object-oriented principles work
• Can tell a breadth-first search from a two-phase commit
• Thoroughly versed in agile development methods and tools
• Thorough understanding of Un*x design principles
• Solid security fundamentals, from iptables to SQL injections
• An infectious reverence for quality code and the process that creates it
• Ability to flexibly optimize for various non-functional requirements
• You get consistency, availability, and partition tolerance
• Experience developing APIs and SDKs from HTTP to MQTT a big plus
• Proven ability to operate with autonomy, mastery, and purpose
• Ability to build trusting relationships with team members to create a safe, positive, and productive working environment
• Eligibility to work in the United States
• Proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 is required before commencing work onsite at Bellwether Headquarters
