Climate Robotics is a venture-backed startup based in Houston, TX. We are building the next generation of agricultural machinery to produce biochar, a powerful soil amendment that improves soil health and sequesters atmospheric carbon.
We are looking for an experienced and motivated foreman who can supervise and lead mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, and fabrication activities to meet critical milestones. Experience with heavy or agricultural equipment is preferred.
This role is based onsite in Houston, TX.
The Shop Foreman will manage and coordinate the work activities of all personnel involved with assembly and fabrication to ensure the entire assembly is completed as scheduled.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience working collaboratively with a superintendent or project manager to understand production objectives. They will be able to interpret drawings, redline as necessary, and schedule, assign, and direct work activities to meet deadlines. They will have sufficient skill and knowledge of large mechanical and electrical assemblies, fabrication, and general labor work to effectively carry out the responsibilities outlined below.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and assign activities on a daily and weekly schedule to meet deadlines
- Communicate and execute plans in regard to material flow, planning, assigning, and directing work by coordinating operations and activities between the mechanical and electrical teams
- Organize, lead, and train employees to complete projects within established guidelines and timeframe
- Ensure that needed plans, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations
- Work alongside personnel and set the pace
- Work from engineer drawings or sketches to cut, layout, and weld structures and components from drawings
- Assemble mechanical and electronic components with hand tools
- Set up and maintain shop equipment, welders, plasma cutters, lifts, etc.
- Demonstrate proper work methods
- Check work while in progress and when finished to ensure it meets required standards
- Liaise with supervisors on problems/roadblocks to identify and implement solutions
- Report to supervisors on status and progress of work, causes of work delays, and plans to recover
- Enforce company safety policies and procedures while ensuring work areas are clean and orderly
- Assist with on-the-floor training and development of personnel
- Help build out and spec our manufacturing capabilities to meet our ever-growing needs
- Assist with the management of project productivity, costs, quality, and safety consistent with company policies and practices.
- Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the organization
- Provide input and recommendations with respect to personnel matters, including hiring, firing, discipline, promotion, demotion, etc.
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Experience with steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
- Familiarity with project scheduling and ability to ensure timelines are met
- Ability to provide guidance to skilled trades/assemblers to maximize quality
- Ability to comprehend engineering drawings or sketches, specifications, routers, bill of materials, manufacturing procedures manual, and basic math (adding, subtracting, multiplying, fractions)
- Able to fabricate steel frames, skids, and pipes and be able to weld steel, stainless steel, and aluminum in MIG and TIG
- Operate a forklift, overhead crane, and jib crane safely
- Able to lift 50+ pounds, lift heavy loads, and transfer them manually
- Familiarity with safety procedures and ability to maintain a safe work environment
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, good visual and manual dexterity
- Willingness to work alternate schedules, such as on weekends or late evenings when required
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
