About the Role

We are taking a fresh approach to recreational vehicle design, starting from zero and asking fundamental questions about how a travel trailer should be built in the modern electric age. We will count on you and your team to apply creative thinking alongside engineering rigor and industry best practices towards the creation of a seamless, reliable and manufacturable vehicle designed to stand the test of time. Generations of Lightship users will thank you for your work!

Responsibilities
- Develop novel, robust interior and exterior designs that make using a Lightship a simple, streamlined experience – pure delight for our customers
- Collaborate with the Product and Design teams to develop and package vehicle A- and B-surfaces that meet product functional requirements and design intent
- Establish engineering requirements and define specifications to drive interior and exterior subsystem and component design and validation
- Set a high quality standard for interior and exterior part and assembly design to help ensure that Lightship products lead the industry in fit and finish
- Select suppliers and manage our companies’ relationships and deliverables
- Engage with, and contribute information to guide, vehicle BOM cost targets
- Recruit, manage, mentor, and lead a team of exceptional design engineers to develop high quality Lightship vehicle components and subsystems

Prior Experience & Professional Qualities
- BS engineering or similar (MS preferred)
- Experienced leader in early-stage vehicle development (especially EVs!)
- Experience taking products from concept to production manufacturing
- Experience engineering A-class surface parts for consumer products
- Experience with compact and convertible furniture design
- Experience with electrical wiring and plumbing design
- Experience designing for applications with environmental, NVH, and other durability requirements
- Experience with sustainable design and engineering practices preferred
- You are curious, fundamentals-driven, and you question founding assumptions
- Collaborative mindset, dedication to excellence and completeness, clear communication style
- 8+ years of relevant experience
