ROLE PROFILE
SOURCE Global is looking for an Embedded Controls Engineer to join our R&D team. This role is based in Tempe, AZ and will report to the Director of R&D. At a glance, this position is responsible for pioneering cutting-edge embedded and automation controls for prototypes, experimentation and new equipment development, advancing and innovating water production technologies for SOURCE Hydropanels.
**In this role, you will: **
- Work in conjunction with a team of scientists and engineers from various disciplines including, but not limited to, mechanical design engineering, materials engineering, thermodynamics, heat and moisture transfer, design of experiments, computational methods, and data analysis to create new water-producing technologies
- Forward SOURCE’s mission by proposing elegant electronic designs and efficient implementations of controls systems
- Contribute to the product development team as the integration liaison of product ready R&D concepts to design engineering

- Significant experience in quick turn electronics design and sourcing (schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, etc.)
- An innovation mindset, thriving on solving complex and ambiguous problems with impeccable scientific vision
- Preference for an environment that demands short-term results while also building towards the future in parallel
- Proven record of controls design for PV Power management, AC/DC conversion, MPPT and battery charging
- A track record of creating novel controls systems in a research, prototype, or product development environment
- Proficiency in hands-on design, building, debugging, and operating of custom experimental setup automation
- Experience in control of electromechanical components such as brushed DC motors, brushless DC motors or stepper motors, actuators, etc.
- Basic knowledge in data acquisition and data logging
- Proficiency with LabView, Python and embedded C/C++ software
- Knowledge of off the shelf automation and controls implementation such as Arduino, National Instruments, etc.
- Working knowledge of new product development and ability to collaborate across manufacturing, operations, and engineering
REQUIREMENTS - Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field and 5+ years' experience as an Embedded Controls Engineer working on new product development or related work OR
- Master’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field and 3+ years' experience as an Embedded Controls Engineer working on new product development or related work
- Expertise in the sourcing or design and prototyping of custom controls hardware, and automation logic and coding for electromechanical components and data acquisition
- Expertise in DC power management (solar source preferred), storage, and distribution from a hardware standpoint
The typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM**.** Some overtime and weekends may be required when targets are not achieved.
