AMP Robotics is hiring a Facility Process Engineer reporting to the Site Reliability Engineering Manager. This role will be responsible for simplifying diverse data sources into actionable optimization decisions about how to configure and run AMP’s secondary sortation facilities. The role will focus on maximizing outputs based on variable inputs and being the liaison between Ops, Facility Ops, and AMP Engineering groups. This role will be regionally based - local to a specific facility and expanding as AMPs facility footprint expands.

The ideal candidate will have a diverse background in process engineering and/or field engineering, experience performing facility scale validation testing, a history of working with production operators, and demonstrated examples of data-backed decision making in a process engineering environment.

Additionally, the Facility Process Engineer will work closely with other diverse engineering groups (DevOps, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facility Ops, QA Engineering, Asset Deployment etc.) to define plant configuration standards, train plant operators on facility process expectations, and commission/startup AMPs growing secondary sortation facilities. Finally, the Facility Process Engineer will be expected to become an expert in AMP’s core sorting technologies - driving device specific and facility specific improvement suggestions through appropriate ownership groups.

As a Facility Process Engineer and member of the Site Reliability Engineering team, you will:

  • Lead efforts to commission and startup new AMP facilities across the US
    • Develop and execute both Software Acceptance Testing and Functional Acceptance testing procedures for successful plant startups.
    • Remain onsite until expected performance metrics are achieved and Facility Ops is prepared to own plant operations.
    • Drive lessons learned from each startup back to design engineering and asset deployment groups.
    • Facilitate the transition from startup to typical operations through training plant operators and facility staff on preferred process conditions and equipment operation.
  • Work with Engineering and Facilities Operations groups to execute facility improvement plans and derive plant configuration standards.
    • Perform before and after configuration change analysis - validating and verifying process specific performance parity or improvement.
    • Create and/or execute engineering test plans and analysis - with the goal of increasing recovery rate, facility throughput, and ultimately - revenue per inbound ton.
    • Continue AMPs competitive advantage by increasing Engineering Team feature velocity - become the most efficient portion of the facility update process.
    • Coordinate and perform supplier based mass flow tests - optimizing revenue per infeed ton and ensuring Facility Operations has standardized operating instructions per infeed conditions.
  • Train facility personnel on the operation of AMP developed equipment and act as a Tier 2 resource for plant failure escalations.
    • Act as the operational expert in core AMP sorting technologies and serve as a technical escalation resource within the plant - assisting facility personnel in troubleshooting internal AMP equipment and 3rd party vendor equipment.
    • Create facility operational collateral (documentation and videos) for training new plant managers and operators on standardized AMP theory of operations.
    • Train operators and maintenance staff on function and troubleshooting associated with the AMP custom facility control system and AMP sortation equipment.
    • Present AMP standardized processes to new AMP facility teams as designated by Facility Ops (such as infeed management, tip floor expectations, and data tracking expectations).

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
Required:

  • 3+ years experience in a process, controls, or field engineering role
    • Startup Experience - SAT (Software Acceptance Testing) and FAT (Functional Acceptance Testing) - creating and execution.
  • 2+ years experience programming with a scripting language like Python (hobby level projects considered).
  • Exposure to Linux system administration and basic command line familiarity
  • Demonstrated examples of real world data analysis, process performance testing, and system validation testing - production of technical reports and test plans for management level decision making and review

Preferred:

  • 1 + years experience as a lead shift engineering
  • Chemical or Petro-Chemical process engineering experience
  • Grafana or other data historian/database experience (SQL based)
  • Automated build program experience (Ansible Tower, Jenkins, Gitlab CI, etc)
  • Examples of technical writing
  • Networking exposure - TCP/IP networking (routing & switching, VPNs, managing VPCs, running and interpreting packet captures)
  • Experience with a wide variety of both batch and continuous process controls
  • Interest in/experience with Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence and/or robotics
  • Ability to read and/or write any adjacent, modern, coding language
  • Facility operation experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any engineering discipline
