Role Description

Parallel Systems is an early-stage startup company developing the future of intermodal transportation. Our mission is to decarbonize freight while improving supply chain logistics and safety. We are developing vehicles and software to create new autonomous and electric transportation systems for existing rail infrastructure.

At Parallel Systems, we value the team as much as the mission. We want to work with talented people that are humble, motivated, and persistent. Our most successful team members are self-starters and collaborate with others to reach our collective goals.

We’re looking for a vehicle integration and electrical harness engineer to contribute to the development of our second generation vehicles! In this role you’ll work with the mechanical and electrical engineering teams to design and execute the interconnection of electromechanical systems. This work will maximize vehicle reliability and also help inform electrical and mechanical design requirements. In this role, you’ll work with engineering staff, production staff, technicians, and vendors to maintain robust documentation and deliver robust products.

Responsibilities

- Own harnessing vehicle architecture trades on harness cost, reliability, and serviceability to inform decision-making.
- Produce harness designs and work instructions for the vehicle and integration test stands. This includes: Planning and tracking signal interconnections between components. Generate Harness Schematic Drawings. Determine appropriate materials and wire treatments. Prepare harness assembly instructions. Provide harness test procedures. Document harness routing and securement details.
- Work with interconnect manufacturers and vendors to identify optimal parts for performance, reliability, and cost.
- Coordinate harness assembly with vendors. This includes selecting vendors and coordinating production builds while providing quality oversite. Develop receiving inspection quality standards and test for harnessing.
- Provide training to technicians on proper harness assembly and test techniques.
- Participate in vehicle integration, testing, and troubleshooting. Incorporate lessons learned into updated designs and work instructions.
- Select and qualify vehicle indicators and sensors such as audible horns, strobe lights, pressure sensors, flow switches, etc.
- Collaborate with Production Coordinator for successful vehicle integration at contract manufacturer. Duties include hosting design reviews, producing integration work instructions, establishing quality checks on components & systems, implementing vehicle checkouts, and providing feedback to mechanical and electrical design engineers.
- Collaborate in vehicle integration testing including design of test stands, conducting bench testing, and analyzing data.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar major
- 3+ years of experience in a related role
- Proficient with Harness CAD tools
- Ability to create detail-oriented designs
- Methodical electrical design, testing, and troubleshooting capabilities
- Experience working with integrated electromechanical assemblies for use in wet environments
- Familiarity with electrical wire types, termination techniques, and fundamental electrical principles
- Experience sourcing electrical components
- Working understanding of electrical principles such as ohm’s law, dielectric strength, impedance, shielding, and electromagnetic interference.

Preferred

- Experience with Automotive Harnessing Design.
- Experience establishing or managing electrical wire harness supply chain.
- Experience leading electrical vehicle integration.
- Experience with SolidWorks modeling and 2-D drawing creation.
- Familiarity with ASME drawing standards and GD&T principles.
- Experience working in an OEM environment on rail, automotive, agricultural, or construction equipment.
- Familiarity with IPC/WHMA and ASME standards
- Familiarity with high voltage DC wiring, especially in electric vehicle applications
- Familiarity with hydraulic plumbing (hoses and hard lines)
- Experience with ultrasonic welding operations
- Experience with PDM data management and integration
