Role Description

SilverLining seeks a talented, experienced, and creative Marketing and Communications Manager to join a remarkable team driving research and policy to ensure a safe climate.

SilverLining is a non‐profit organization founded in 2018 that (1) works with policymakers in the US and internationally on equitable, effective, science-based decision-making on near-term climate risk and possible approaches to reduce warming rapidly (climate intervention); (2) supports physical sciences research and technology innovation in accelerating the understanding of near-term climate risks and interventions through its Safe Climate Research Initiative; (3) spearheads initiatives to promote diverse and equitable participation in science and decision-making through its Global Youth Initiative and Global South programs; and (4) provides a platform for communication and dialogue on near-term climate risk and climate intervention.

SilverLining seeks a Marketing and Communications Manager—a seasoned leader who can build on the organization’s success and advance its ability to communicate across boundaries on a complex topic of profound importance while supporting efforts for SilverLining’s policy and advocacy programs and the Safe Climate Research Initiative. The Marketing and Communications Manager will oversee the communications, content, and engagement efforts required to support the mission of ensuring a safe climate within a decade.

The Marketing and Communications Manager is part of the senior management team and will report to the Executive Director.

**RESPONSIBILITIES **

**Specifically, the Marketing and Communications Manager will: **

  • Develop and execute a marketing-communications plan that successfully promotes SilverLining’s messages and incorporates content development, digital communications, social media, and media relations components
  • Develop and direct content for website, newsletter, impact reports, social media channels, blogs and videos, executive speaking remarks, and collateral
  • Direct/lead marketing and communications activities associated with SilverLining programs, including the Safe Climate Research Initiative, Earth Information Initiative, Global Youth Initiative, and other key programs and initiatives
  • Supervise/lead marketing and communications activities associated with SilverLining events, including its presence at COP26, joint events with partners, and virtual and physical events throughout the year
  • Manage reactive and proactive media opportunities, including developing media strategy, advisories, and press releases and pitching directly to media, and
  • Support SilverLining’s partners, grantees, and stakeholders in communications and media relations

The right candidate has a passion for working on climate change issues, is adept with technical and/or scientific material, is outgoing and interested in engaging with climate leaders in the US and internationally, is adept at engaging a diverse range of people from a diverse range of professions, pays great attention to detail, and possess excellent project and people management skills. The ideal candidate also needs to be creative and competent at presenting ideas and information in engaging ways, in both verbal and written formats.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelors or Graduate degree with 5+ years of work experience in marketing and/or communications
  • 5-years + Educational or professional experience in technical or scientific subject matter, with experience in climate/sustainability, enterprise/infrastructure technology, and/or science policy preferred
  • Successful track record in marketing communications for technology, science, or the environment
  • An outgoing self‐starter who can adapt to a changing environment, handle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of various communication platforms, such as WordPress, Google Analytics, and MailChimp
  • Management and project management experience
  • Facility with PowerPoint, graphic design, etc.
  • Comfort and facility with social media

Location: The Marketing and Communications Manager position is a remote position with an option for working from SilverLining’s office in Washington DC or collaborative workspaces. The candidate will have the ability to travel, including internationally, as needed.

Compensation: SilverLining offers excellent opportunities for personal and professional growth. Salary is competitive with respect to private sector technical marketing roles and commensurate with experience.
