WhereIsMyTransport is an industry-leading technology company and central source of mobility and location data for emerging markets. We produce and maintain an unrivalled Transit Data, Point of Interest (POI) Data, and Real-Time Alerts offering, working in-field in Africa, Latin America, Southeast Europe, and South and Southeast Asia.
More than two thirds of the population in emerging-market cities rely on public transport, but lack access to network and disruption information they can rely on. Rumbo, our Android app for commuters in Mexico City, Lima, and Bangkok, overcomes this, providing a meaningful, localised user experience underpinned by WhereIsMyTransport’s data. Rumbo helps commuters navigate public transport, providing:
- Complete, reliable data: Information from every mode of public transport—formal and informal—sharing unique journey insights and creating value for users.
- Journey alternatives: Alerts and alternatives for when journeys don’t go to plan, helping users plan ahead, saving time and money.
- Personalised experience: Alerts for frequent journeys, filterable transport modes, and journeys shared via WhatsApp and other channels.
We’re looking for a versatile Marketing Manager in Mexico City to define and deliver relevant and appealing digital marketing campaigns to supercharge Rumbo’s growth.
Our whole team works remotely, and you will too, but you’ll need to be based in Mexico City, so that you can leverage your insider knowledge of the happenings in the city to create highly localized content.
Requirements
- Build a localized marketing plan to meet (or exceed!) brand awareness and new user acquisition KPIs for Rumbo. You’ll leverage your expertise in multi-channel distribution and creative messaging to take campaigns from idea to execution, while ensuring you stay within budget.
- Conduct both quantitative & qualitative analysis to continuously deliver insights to the wider Rumbo Marketing team, plus colleagues from other functions like Product, Design, and Operations.
- Create, develop and implement creative plans with the support from the Country Manager and the wider Rumbo Marketing Team. This includes writing localised content yourself, and working with a designer / agency to develop visual marketing materials.
- Lead marketing campaigns with the guidance from the Design team. Produce relatable assets and materials.
- Manage all Social Media for our mobile app, publishing according to an agreed schedule. You’ll take charge of our existing channels (like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) plus help guide us toward new channels, using data from other markets paired with a test-and-learn approach to find the best ways to reach new audiences.
- Manage external relationships as we scale - this could range from a freelance specialist to a partnership with an agency for support on activities like PR, design, or digital marketing.
- Do some hands-on field marketing yourself, distributing marketing materials and advocating for the use of our product.
- Research trends and undertake competitor analysis to make sure our campaigns are cutting edge and in line with what our users will find most appealing.
- Constantly iterate on how we are marketing our app locally, monitoring the success of past campaigns and updating future activities based on what we know works. You experiment all day, every day by generating ideas & hypotheses & then executing tests to learn & iterate. You naturally think in terms of MVP, starting small to learn quickly and iterating for scale. Since so many experiments don’t result in the expected outcomes, you’re not afraid of “failing” and you endeavor to make sure the learnings generated from your failures circulate just as widely as those coming from the successes.
You have:
- Experience driving the creative marketing roadmap from developing a Go-To-Market strategy, defining strategic objectives and execution. You’ve most likely managed Digital Marketing and advertising for a variety of different brands, even better if some of those have been for mobile-first products.
- A passion for bringing brands to life through best-in-class copy and design. You use your excellent writing skills to create and tailor creative content in Spanish towards a chilango audience, leveraging your deep understanding of the cultural nuance required to give the Rumbo brand a hyperlocal flavor.
- An entrepreneurial mindset - you’re comfortable with ambiguity, you can think strategically, and you’re also excited to “roll your sleeves up” and get things done.
- Plentiful experience using data to iterate on multi-channel campaigns. You know how to interpret data and turn into actionable insights about what’s driving growth (and what’s not).
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Experience working with a remote team. You are comfortable working asynchronously at times and can build relationships with people you haven’t met in person.
- A strong bias to action. You work with autonomy, share work often, and know when to ask for guidance or support.
Bonus if you:
- Have experience working in a venture-backed startup or scale-up.
- Use public transportation regularly in Mexico City, the more types of transport you’ve tried the better!
- Understand how informal and formal modes of transport work in Mexico City, or even more broadly across the majority world.
Interested?
