ROLE PROFILE

SOURCE Global is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our R&D team. This role is based in Tempe, AZ and will report to the Director of R&D. At a glance, this position is responsible for the design and validation of structural, electromechanical and thermofluid modules of prototypes, experiments, and new equipment development.

In this role, you will:

• Work in conjunction with a team of scientists and engineers from various disciplines including, but not limited to, embedded controls engineering, materials engineering, thermodynamics, heat and moisture transfer, design of experiments, computational methods, and data analysis to create new water-producing technologies
• Forward SOURCE’s mission by creating elegant and efficient designs for new product development and custom testing equipment
• Design and validate novel architectures for Hydropanel technology advancement
• Contribute to the product development team as the integration liaison of product development ready R&D concepts to design engineering

• Significant experience in quick turn experimentation and rapid prototyping and validation
• An innovation mindset, thriving on solving complex and ambiguous problems with impeccable scientific vision
• Preference for an environment that demands short-term results while also building towards the future in parallel
• Extensive experience in SolidWorks suite
• Experience in flow system design, process and instrumentation, such as hydraulics, pressurized or compressed gas systems, phase change systems, environmental systems, and chilled cooling water devices.
• A track record of design engineering experience in a research, prototype, or product development environment demonstrating manufacturable solutions
• Basic knowledge in data acquisition and data logging
• Expertise in managing domestic and foreign tooling and supply shops
• Expertise in specifying and selecting electromechanical components such as fans, motors, and pumps
• Strong background in rapid prototype methods, such as additive manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, and traditional machining
• Expertise in a variety of manufacturing techniques, such as plastic injection molding, casting, extrusion, thermoforming, blowmolding, stamping, etc
• Working knowledge of new product development and ability to collaborate across manufacturing, operations, and engineering
• Working knowledge of basic CFD analysis for flow field optimization

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field and 5+ years' experience as a Design Engineer working on new product development or related work OR
• Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field and 3+ years' experience as a Design Engineer working on new product development or related work
• Expertise in SolidWorks is a must
• Expertise in bringing concepts from drawing, through rapid prototyping, to DFM

The typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM**.**  Some overtime and weekends may be required when targets are not achieved.
