Alloy Enterprises is developing a new way to manufacture complex aluminum parts on-demand at the unit cost of casting. The 16-person team is creating novel materials, hardware, and software to commercialize their manufacturing process. The Founders have a combined 10 startups between them and bring along hard lessons learned. Alloy values honesty and transparency, and we make sure to take care of our people. Founded in early 2020 in a Somerville carriage house, the company is venture-backed and has contracts with the National Science Foundation, the United States Air Force, and commercial customers.
We are looking for a hard-working and versatile candidate to accelerate the success of Alloy’s novel machines and processes. This is an opportunity to interface with all members of the team to deliver quality parts to customers. Strong communication, flexibility, and the desire to “wear many hats” will all be essential skills for any successful applicant.
What you will do:
- Develop laser cutting processes with an understanding of product development goals
- Develop and improve metallurgical bonding processes
- Tune process parameters to improve performance
- Lead and execute quality control and process improvement efforts
- Outline process specifications and coordinate in a cross-functional manner
- Develop data collection methods, perform statistical analysis, and report on metrics
About you:
- You take ownership of your projects
- You are adaptable and excel when working in a fast-paced environment
- Familiar with statistical analysis methods
- 4+ years of experience
- Bachelor's degree with a graduate degree preferred in a relevant field
Preferred skills:
- Experience with laser processing techniques; such as cutting, machining, and welding
- Experience establishing and running DOEs, process capability, continuous improvement, statistical process control, and FMEAs
- Firm understanding of key metal material properties and testing methods
- Capable of making simple repairs to mechanical systems
- Strong foundation in quality, metrology, mechanical testing, surface characterization
- Experience developing and optimizing manufacturing processes
- Experience with six sigma techniques
