Job Description
Lilac is seeking a process engineer to be involved in the development and scale-up of Lilac’s evaporation, crystallization, and other related operations for the production of battery grade lithium products. The successful candidate will be involved with the design, procurement, installation, and operation of laboratory, pilot, and commercial scale systems. The candidate may also collect data for continuous improvement, prepare equipment data sheets, and review vendor quotations. The engineer will be based in Oakland, CA and will travel to project sites across the US, Europe, and South America for commissioning work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in chemical engineering or related field
- 2+ years of experience working in a chemical production plant or laboratory environment preferred
- Strong leadership skills and able to manage workflow for R&D technicians
- Familiar with analytical procedures such as titrations, ICP-OES, ion chromatography
- Proficient in engineering calculations and developing heat and material balances
- Excellent technical writing skills
- Familiar with developing PFD’s, P&ID’s and general arrangement drawings
- Familiar with process controls, distributed control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC)
- Experience with inorganic chemicals and/or thermal systems preferred
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interface and collaborate with other engineers, chemists, and operators
- Excited to work on a small fast-paced startup team with a drive to succeed and grow with the company
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a periodic basis
- Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to: lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
- Move items up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
- Travel to sites across the US, Europe and South America approximately three months per year
