Process Engineer, Incubation Department

Other Engineering
REMOTE

Role Description

Pearl’s mission is to make our global community a better place by giving homeowners the tools to improve their homes’ health, comfort, efficiency, resilience — and value. We are passionate about improving the performance of residential buildings as a way to improve people’s lives and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Pearl is a national start-up that certifies high-performing homes: homes with efficient heating and cooling, solar, smart home devices, resilient features, and much more. Pearl’s certification drives demand for these improvements by capturing their value for resale and appraisal.

We are looking for a Process Engineer to join the Incubation Department of our dynamic, supportive team to work remotely from anywhere in the US. (We have been fully remote since our founding.)

Pearl is rapidly expanding into new market segments, including residential new construction, insurance, and manufacturers. As Pearl expands, these new divisional leaders must quickly scale processes to obtain certifiable data from the marketplace and ensure the data meets Pearl’s standards. The Incubation Division will assist and support the establishment of each of these new market segment divisions.

As the Process Engineer, you will:

  • Work within the Incubating Divisions to help them establish appropriate certification processes relevant to their marketplace, set up standard operating procedures, and train Division employees once the VP of the new division hires its own operations team
  • Assist the SVP of the Incubation Department on special projects related to building science and certification processes
  • Lead Pearl’s effort to design and launch streamlined data collection, and review processes to:
    • Develop and manage contractor quality assurance processes
    • Certify homes that are for sale and in new construction
    • Certify installations based on manufacturer data
    • Develop processes to track deemed savings to homeowner
    • Use modeling tools to analyze and refine Pearl’s energy efficiency and renewables certification systems
  • Support or lead integrations with other software providers
  • Create sample certifications that can be used for sales and business development
  • Manage relationships with data providers such as RESNET providers, HERS raters, energy auditors, Home Energy Score Assessors, etc.
  • Onboard / train new data providers and assist Pearl in developing modules to automate onboarding and training processes

What we’re looking for in a Process Engineer:

  • Authorization to legally work in the US (Pearl is unable to sponsor employment visas at this time)
  • Building science knowledge
  • Knowledge of energy modeling software
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency programs and how they operate (Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, Home Energy Score, HERS ratings, or similar green building schemas)
  • Extensive experience in the new construction and/or existing home marketplace
  • Familiarity with best practices for collecting and analyzing data obtained from contractors, builders, raters, or other market actors
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and work independently
  • Attention to detail, excellent organization skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities
  • Intellectual curiosity and flexibility to adapt to challenging work
  • Self-starter with a bias toward action and a proven track record of results
  • Occasional travel for team and company-wide meetings, conference events, and/or on-site meetings is anticipated; please note that Pearl requires employees to be fully vaccinated (and boosted if the appropriate time period has passed) for business travel and in-person meetings

Nice to have:

  • Previous startup experience
  • Experience in any of the following fields: home contracting, solar, energy efficiency, building performance, building science, real estate
  • Experience providing quality control and quality assurance services in residential programs
  • Ability and/or interest to learn how to integrate Pearl’s software with other data providers via APIs

Why work at Pearl?

  • We offer great growth opportunities in a dynamic, growing startup
  • We are a mission-driven company, and we love what we do
  • Pearl’s company culture is centered around our core values, the first of which is equality between people. We value diversity, celebrate our differences, and learn from one another. Pearl is an equal opportunity employer, and candidates from all backgrounds and life experiences are encouraged to apply.
  • Our company culture is supportive, team-based, and fun
  • We are 100% remote - work where you feel comfortable

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Market salary based on experience and local conditions, in the range of $80,000-100,000
  • Medical, vision, and dental coverage provided for employees and their families, with optional upgrade coverage, where the employee covers only the difference in cost
  • Flexible spending and dependent care accounts, life insurance, cell phone service, and 401(k) with employer match up to 4%
  • 15 vacation days during the calendar year, plus holidays (including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day), a floating holiday for your birthday, sick days, and paid parental leave

RECRUITERS, AGENCIES, AND INTERESTED CANDIDATES - we kindly ask that you please do NOT reach out directly via email to Pearl founders or staff.
