Role Description

About the Role – You will:

  • Work with state-of-the-art equipment and gain practical experience in a hands-on environment.
  • Work on projects and programs currently in progress at Proterra, which allows co-op to apply knowledge that contributes to the overall business.
  • Support day-to day activities on the battery line to understand and problem solve issues with automated test equipment.
  • Assist with ongoing projects that may include work instruction development/refinement, PFMEA, first pass test yield improvement, work station improvement, new product development support.
  • Coordinate with internal and external customers in areas of assigned responsibility.
  • Have opportunities to propose new ideas, improvement concepts, and implementation.
  • Participate in data analysis and root cause analysis.
  • Identify and work on improvements in the battery manufacturing process
  • Work with a mentor that will support and be a resource for you during your co-op assignment.

  • This position will be part of the Proterra team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in City of Industry, CA.
  • You will report to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering and may collaborate with other team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA or in our manufacturing facility in Greenville, SC.

Your Experience Includes:

  • Enrollment in a Bachelors/Masters program for the Fall 2022 semester in Engineering Management, Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Robotics with coursework in Fluid Power Systems, Machine Control, Industrial Electronics, Robotics, PLC, Programming skills a plus.
  • Must have completed your sophomore year or later in your current program.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Apply the theory from college/university course work to real world scenarios / situations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications.

You might also have:

  • Experience with automation and/ or robotics a plus
  • Understanding of problem-solving steps and processes to apply in a real-world situation
  • Experience with PFMEA, root cause analysis, Python, and VBA a plus

Location: City of Industry, CA
Temporary Housing: Not available
Length of Co-op: 16 to 19 hours per week during school year
Travel: 0 - 10%
