AMPLY Power’s Project Operations team is seeking a Project Engineer to support the design and installation of electric vehicle charging depots. The Project Engineer will oversee all major technical aspects of EV charging depot project designs, ensuring high-quality engineering standards are met. A successful candidate will have experience in complex electrical system engineering and designs, demonstrating the ability to support the development of projects for AMPLY Power.

This is a full-time paid position based at our HQ office in Mountain View, CA (Bay Area applicants only)

Responsibilities

• Manage project design development through to construction start.
• Oversee design and engineering vendors, ensuring AMPLY system requirements are properly incorporated and vigorous standards are met.
• Present design progress sets to customers, supporting Project Managers with technical components.
• Collect site-specific data (existing conditions, electrical service sizing, as-built documentation, utility service specifications) required for optimizing designs.
• Draft conceptual and preliminary site plans and electrical single-line drawings: redline progress sets to direct changes to design vendors.
• Develop and update design templates and AMPLY product documentation, establishing and enforcing system design standards.
• Provide engineering guidance throughout the full project lifecycle: development, design, permitting, construction, commissioning and operations.
• Interface with permitting authorities (AHJs) and Utilities to submit applications and gain approvals for new projects.
• Work closely with Project Managers and other cross-functioning teams to ensure designs support on-schedule and within-budget installations.
• Maintain project design schedule by monitoring project progress alongside contractors.
• Overcome technical challenges through collaboration with cross-functional teams and developing creative solutions.
• Support post-installation commissioning activities in coordination with project stakeholders.
• Perform other related engineering duties as required to support a dynamic and growing energy project development and deployment team.

Qualifications

• Engineer with expertise in electrical systems designs and NEC.
• Bachelor’s degree in applicable engineering or related discipline.
• 3+ years related energy project experience – electric vehicles, electric vehicle chargers, SCADA systems, battery storage, and/or DERs fields.
• Experience interfacing with Utilities for new service installations or DER interconnections.
• Strong technical written and verbal communication skills with the ability to address multiple stakeholders and audiences.
• Experience drafting designs and plan sets with design software (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, etc.) preferred
• Certified Professional Electrical Engineer or EIT preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Self-starting and team player attitude and demonstrated ability to work autonomously with little oversight and meet project deadlines and requirements.

Even more importantly, EV fleets, in particular when part of critical and close to real-time business processes (for example in autonomous fleets) need to be scheduled for charging in specific time intervals. By taking control of the utility meter, optimizing EV charge rate and vehicle process flow, AMPLY provides the lowest cost of electric fueling possible in a given depot location or in-route stops. Our approach is to offer charging as a service, which is unique in the industry. We offer our customers a per mile driven usage rate. AMPLY provides the bulk of the upfront capital expenditures associated with the charging platform.
