Our client Matter. are recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer based in Bristol whose job it will be to innovate and deliver game changing technology from inception to production.
They need a Senior Design Engineer who has a level head, a great ability to adapt and change between projects and tasks as you might be working on the development of high efficacy filtration in the morning and advising on patent strategy to secure IP in the afternoon.
Matter. is an innovation company pioneering technology solutions for capturing, harvesting and recycling microplastics, they are focused on sustainable design and the circular economy.
Working as a Senior Design Engineer your role will be to:
- Guide the engineering team to solve technical problems and develop collaborative working culture.
- Design, build and test prototypes and experimental setups, visual models, and other physical representations of technology.
- Work with patent attorneys and deal with sensitive data and documents to secure our IP.
- Design and develop new technology and products.
- Attend client meetings nationally and internationally, to develop partnerships and give technical demonstrations.
- Structure and deliver design reviews.
- Act as a link between Engineering and Commercial teams.
- Regularly present to both Senior Leadership, putting forward calculated options alongside your professional recommendation.
- Support the professional and technical development of junior members of the engineering team.
In return, you will be offered a salary of £44,000–£50,000p/a and 26 days annual leave (plus a day off for your birthday!), plus many more great benefits.
What Matter. need from you:
- Minimum experience of 8 years in industry.
- A degree at 2:1 or equivalent level of experience in mechanical engineering, product design or similar.
- An exceptional design engineer and organised project manager, your job will be split between the two.
- Proven ability to innovate from the ‘light blub’ moment all the way through DfM to delivery of technology to market.
- Ability to solve complex problems using your exceptional technical skills, whilst balancing commercial requirements to achieve the ‘bigger picture’.
- Lead by example with experience in managing people, teams, and projects.
- A sound understanding of fluid dynamics. Experience infiltration and CFD is desired.
- A knowledge and passion for the Circular Economy and Cradle to Cradle design.
- High competency in the use of hand tools, and power tools, with an understanding of basic machining (lathes and mills).
- The ability to create test standards and competitor benchmarking.
- A deep understanding of manufacturing processes and ability to conduct DfM.
- An ability to design basic electronics and create working prototypes using Arduino or similar.
- Ability to sketch and communicate your ideas visually.
- A high standard of CAD including parametric, expression driven and surface modelling. (Preferably SOLIDWORKS or Fusion 360)
- The ability to pitch ideas and present them to clients and customers.
