Role Description

Crusoe Energy is on a mission to unlock value in stranded energy resources through the power of computation. Take a look at what we do! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rlt8k71Quqw We aim to align the long term interests of the climate with the future of global computing infrastructure. As data centers consume an exponentially growing power footprint to deliver technology to all connected devices, we are inspired by making sure that the energy meeting that demand is sourced in an environmentally responsible fashion. Crusoe co-locates mobile data centers with stranded energy resources, like flare gas and underloaded renewables, to deliver low-cost, carbon-negative distributed computing solutions. Crusoe Cloud is a managed cloud services platform powered by stranded energy that enables climate-friendly innovation in computationally intensive fields including artificial intelligence, graphics rendering and computational biology.

Crusoe is seeking a senior, experienced mechanical/thermal engineer to join its hardware systems development efforts. As the lead mechanical/thermal engineer at Crusoe, you’ll join a high-energy systems development team creating innovative solutions that are disrupting the high-performance computing market. Crusoe is innovating at the systems architecture, firmware, and thermal management level to drive industry-leading performance. The results will support Crusoe’s clean energy mission and drive competitive advantage.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading and defining the product designs across a large breadth of skill sets, including structural, thermal, manufacturing, serviceability, and reliability.
  • Utilizes multi-discipline strengths within thermal/mechanical engineering to lead designs, drive system level decisions, testing and implementation.
  • Serves as the mechanical/thermal lead researching, designing, developing, and testing best-in-class structural, thermal, and acoustic solutions. The design is critical in the high-performance applications that Crusoe enables.
  • Thermal design is increasingly critical to maximize performance and deliver world-class reliability. This role performs thermal modeling and develops prototypes of future cooling solutions.
  • Works within a collaborative team interfacing with other disciplines, senior management, and external partners.
  • Works with the latest emerging thermal management technologies including immersion.
  • Expected to exercise significant independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives.

  • Master’s/PhD in Mechanical, Thermal, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 8-10 years of experience.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in HPC systems level design, electronic cooling, and thermal management.
  • Experience with both passive and advanced cooling (liquid or alternate) designs.
  • Experience with heat sink design, and integration.
  • Must have experience with embedded systems thermal design.
  • Strong aptitude to assess and optimize products by making the proper feature tradeoffs between electrical, mechanical, power, thermal, and firmware.
  • Strong aptitude for interpretation of thermal simulations, design, test, and qualification requirements.
  • Thermal analysis / modeling / simulation experience (and associated CAD skills)
  • Prior computer architecture, and programming experience with thermal systems control.
  • Hands-on knowledge of computer hardware architecture.
  • Knowledge of HPC industry standards.
