Position Overview
This position will provide comprehensive validation engineering support to the Proterra Power Validation and Launch Engineer Manager. You will be responsible for leading and executing characterization, validation, and safety tests on new electric vehicle technologies, documentation of tests and failure analysis resulting from those tests. This position will work as the face of the company maintaining the highest level of safety at all required locations and be the primary validation engineer on the execution of validation activities supporting Proterra Power activities. This role will support Proterra Power projects with development partners.
About the Role – You will:
- Support Validation Engineering with instrumentation installation and verification on vehicles and systems.
- Support onsite and offsite testing as required including but not limited to durability testing, chamber testing and partner program validation activities.
- Travel to support on and offsite validation requirements.
- Work in multiple environmental conditions and in thermal (whole vehicle) chambers.
- Provide hands on involvement and ownership of all activities within the execution of work responsibilities.
- Develop engineering validation and characterization plans for Proterra’s electric vehicle technologies.
- Provide clear and concise documentation related to testing.
- Other tasks as assigned by management

- This position will be part of the Validation and Launch Support team for Proterra Power
- This position will primarily be work from home when not onsite supporting a customer or conducting business with team members at a Proterra location.
- You will report to the Validation and Launch Support Manager and collaborate with other Testing and Validation team members located at the Proterra ITIC Validation site, our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles, CA and Greenville, SC.

Your Experience Includes:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent relevant experience
- Five (5) plus years of validation and/or launch support experience
- Bus or heavy vehicle validation experience is preferred; test experience on vehicle, components and systems
- Knowledge of vehicle as high voltage and low voltage electrical, pneumatic systems, brakes, and vehicle suspension components
- Experience with data acquisition, installation, testing and data review
- Experience with Dewesoft, CANalyzer, PCAN Explorer or other data acquisition systems
- Solid understanding in CAN protocol (J1939) networks
- Software evaluation and tuning activities knowledge is preferred
- Proficient with MS Office applications
- Physical Demands:
- May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
- Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
- Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
- Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.
- Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.
- Environmental Demands:
- Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
- Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
- Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.
