Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive support to Proterra’s Director of Systems Engineering and other site leadership team members. This position will lead embedded software development projects for state-of-the-art heavy duty EV battery technologies, reporting to Director of Systems Engineering. Proterra is looking for an engineering professional with strong technical, communication, and leadership skills to meet the demanding technical, quality, and schedule requirements of these development programs. This position will be immersed in the product design process and will work cross functionally shepherd projects from concept through to prototype validation and then production ramp hand-off. As a Software Technical Project Manager of Battery Technology, you would be expected understand the product requirements, technical risks and the validation strategy to accelerate the development process. You’ll be passionate about managing complex projects, demonstrate a high degree of process ownership and innovation, and want to have fun while working towards clean, quiet transportation for all.

About the Role – You will:

  • Gather internal software functionality requirements for core architectures and external customer requirements and feature requests for applications.
  • Develop and communicating project plans and schedules for the design, release, and validation of software deliverables.
  • Identify creative ways to overcome obstacles and meet the schedule despite setbacks.
  • Proactively ensure that risk mitigating actions are on-going within the engineering teams
  • Identify multi-functional design dependencies and risks
  • Ensure problems are transparent and risks are identified, escalating with leadership team when required
  • Participate in weekly cross-functional team meetings as a liaison for the software development team.
  • Track and drive closure to software bugs with software development team.
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Your Experience Includes:

  • 3+ years of experience in managing complex software projects through the full product development life cycle.
  • Demonstrated understanding of software requirements, release, and validation during the product design cycle.
  • Demonstrated experience in software development cycle
  • Demonstrated experience in software configuration management and version control
  • Demonstrated experience managing vendor or contractor software requirements and deliveries
  • Demonstrated experience scoping software engineering efforts
  • Demonstrated experience creating, maintaining and communicating schedules.
  • Demonstrated understanding of product release cycle as it relates to the creation and validation of software requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand and communicate tradeoffs between engineering design, customer requirements, schedule and cost.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate/present complex technical concepts to non-technical teams, audience ranging from cross functional support individuals to executive leadership
  • BS in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Ability to travel as needed to Proterra and project-related partner sites

  • Battery pack or other transferable experience.
  • Experience with hybrid or electric vehicles.
