This position will provide comprehensive technical support to Proterra’s Greenville Site Technical Publications Manager and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for the research, development and delivery of technical publications required for Proterra’s fleet of advanced, all-electric transit buses and associated charging equipment.
About the Role – You will:
- Produce a wide variety of highly technical documentation including customer manuals, service bulletins, installation guides, quick-reference guides, training curriculum, instructional manuals, and other supporting documents to communicate complex and technical information in an easily understood manner.
- Interview production personnel, engineering personnel, and research vendor material to become familiar with component installation and operation. Study drawings, specifications, mockup and product samples to determine installation sequence, adjustment details and vehicle-specific operating procedures.
- Illustrate procedural documents by taking photographs, selecting and enhancing CAD drawings, and producing sketches, diagrams and charts.
- Layout customer manuals and other technical documents for publication; review previously published manuals and recommended revisions or changes in scope, format and content.
- Understand the needs of the customer and the industry to ensure products are industry leading; conduct cursory inspection of customer vehicles to evaluate accuracy of manuals and build quality.
- Determine tools and equipment needed to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
- Interact with engineering and manufacturing release systems.
- Maintain State-of-the-Art knowledge of related topics.

- This position will be part of the Greenville based Customer Service team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Greenville, SC.
- You will report to the Site Technical Publications Manager and collaborate with other Customer Service team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, CA.

Your Experience Includes:
- Associate’s Degree in Education, Technical Communications, Human Resource Development, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years’ experience using software and publishing tools applicable to the technical writing field.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for training design, teaching, instruction, adult learning theory, Engineering BOM structure and management.
- Experience developing step-by-step procedural documentation as well as a strong mechanical aptitude.
- Experience using relevant software such as Adobe FrameMaker, InDesign, and Illustrator.
- Proficient MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Access, SharePoint).
- Physical demands include but not limited to lifting, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, sitting, standing, working from ladders and walking.
- Environmental demands include but not limited to working in extreme temperatures (cold/heat), excessive noise, and high voltage.
You might also have:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Manufacturing Experience
- Experience using desktop publishing software (Adobe FrameMaker)
- Experience using demo and eLearning software (Adobe Captivate / Articulate / Lectora)
- Experience using SolidWorks (or other CAD software) to develop technical illustrations
