Position Description

The Director of People Operations will assume ownership of all functions relating to people operations within Fervo, devising and implementing plans to build and shape these functions so that our fast-growing organization can effectively cultivate, motivate, and retain top talent. This role requires a proactive, innovative, critical thinking leader who will evaluate current benefits, systems, and culture in place, and work to transform each as the company grows. A successful candidate will be willing to start as an individual contributor, managing benefits selection and administration, supporting recruiting and onboarding, facilitating employee performance management and retention, and crafting company culture, but ultimately, they will work to build and manage a highly functioning people operations team.

The Director of People Operations will report to the Head of Strategy

Responsibilities

  • Managing existing people operations functions including administration, recruiting, systems, and cultural initiatives. Specifically:
    • Administering current employee benefits o Providing recruiting support to hiring managers
    • Onboarding new employees
    • Tracking employee performance o Managing workers compensation claims and processes
    • Supporting existing cultural initiatives
  • Working to evaluate and update each system to grow as the company grows. Specifically:
    • Evaluating and updating benefits offering and payroll administration system
    • Evaluating and updating recruiting approach and systems
    • Evaluating and updating new employee onboarding o Evaluating and updating performance management approach and systems
    • Evaluating and updating systems used for payroll administration, benefits administration, applicant tracking, training and development, and performance management
  • Designing and leading implementation of cultural initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • A desire to own and shape the people operations function within a fast-growing climate startup
  • 5-10 years of prior experience working in and managing people operations functions
  • Fluency in each area identified under Responsibilities
  • A good understanding of available systems for each area identified under Responsibilities
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • Strong initiative, problem-solving skills, ownership mindset, and attention to detail
  • A high degree of self-motivation and autonomy
  • Experience with human resources reporting, KPIs, and metric optimization
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, writing, presentation, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience managing and building the people operations function of a business
  • Renewable energy experience
  • Startup experience

Location

Fervo Energy has principal offices in Houston, San Francisco, and Reno. Remote work with travel will be considered, but relocation to a Fervo office will ultimately be encouraged. Houston is the preferred base office for this position.
