Position Overview
This position will provide comprehensive engineering technical support to Proterra’s Quality and Production team on 2nd shift - Quality Engineering and other leadership team members. This position will be responsible for defect investigations and corrective actions. Creating nonconformance reports, to document defect details, and resolve systematic defect causes. The Quality Engineering Technician is responsible for working with engineering and operations teams to ensure the vehicles are built to the required specifications. The role will include collaboration with cross functional departments including: Mfg Engineering, Design Engineering, Production and Supplier Quality Engineering, with this hands-on role.
About the Role – You will:
- Maintains and upholds to high safety standards.
- Support the Quality team in building processes to eliminate EOL defects, and defect creation.
- Be the Proterra HV electrical routing requirements expert for multiple vehicle systems
- Be the Proterra LV electrical routing requirements expert for multiple vehicle systems
- Develop documentation to support Proterra quality initiatives, while meeting tight deadlines
- Focus on continuous improvement implementation in your area of responsibility
- Drive product improvements through to engineering.
- Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of related topics.
- Train production operators when called upon
- Other duties as assigned by management.

- This position will be part of the Los Angeles based Manufacturing Engineering Team
- You will report to the Manager, Quality and collaborate with other Engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles, CA and Greenville, SC.

Your Experience Includes:
- High School Diploma
- 3+ years of experience within the transportation or heavy vehicle industry
- Proficient with MS Office applications
- Experience with EVs is a plus
- Knowledge of electrical schematic
- Background in low voltage DC electrical systems.
- Knowledge of 3D CAD modeling software (i.e., Catia or Solidworks)
- Physical Demands:
- May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
- Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
- Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
- Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.
- Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.
- Environmental Demands:
- Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
- Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
- Works with irritant chemicals, gases
