Role Description

Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive supplier quality support to Proterra’s Sr. Manager of Supplier Quality and Development. You will be responsible for suppliers providing product to Proterra’s Transit Bus Manufacturing Plant in Greenville SC. As Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer (SQAE) you will quarterback all Supplier Quality issues for the Greenville location by project managing issue resolution with a cross functional team. You will be the liaison between plant quality, supplier quality, engineering, sourcing, and play a critical role in the success of second shift operations.

About the Role – You will:

  • Manage Supplier Deviation Requests (SDR’s) by assisting in the controlled release of deviated parts from MRB and providing production awareness to the deviations.
  • Manage the containment, inspection, and escalation of quality spills from Suppliers. Update production on the status of Corrective Actions.
  • Screen Supplier Non-Conformances entered by production for completeness. Update as needed.
  • Host Suppliers coming on site to perform reworks and coordinate space to execute those reworks.
  • Represent the Supplier Quality team during daily Material Review Board (MRB) reviews and daily GEMBA walks.
  • Manage material being sent offsite to suppliers for rework or replacement.
  • Place Purchase Order requests for sub-component parts that are damaged during production or material handling.
  • Collaborate with inspectors on the priority of inspection regarding incoming development material, containment inspections, and sampling plans.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement and development of processes.

  • This position will be part of the Greenville SC Quality team but will also support Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Los Angeles CA and Burlingame CA.
  • You will report to the Manager of Supplier Quality and Development based out of Greenville SC.

Your Experience Includes:

  • 3+ Years working in Plant Quality or Supplier Quality Roles.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering preferred) or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), ISO and IATF standards
  • Experience in working with battery-related components.
  • Broad range of tooling, manufacturing process and workmanship standards experience across castings, printed circuit boards and other complex assemblies.
  • Experience or education with best-in-class manufacturing practices (Lean Manufacturing, visual management, data collection, material utilization, employee engagement, cross-training, standard work, gage R&R, calibration, etc.)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and SPC software (i.e. Minitab)
