Position Overview
This position will provide comprehensive supplier quality support to Proterra’s Sr. Manager of Supplier Quality and Development. You will be responsible for suppliers providing Chassis components to Proterra’s next generation Bus Body. In this role you will ensure that products are delivered in accordance with established Quality Standards and customer specifications by providing support in areas of document and data collection, monitoring improvement activities, cross-functional communications, and being part of the overall cost of quality initiatives.
About the Role – You will:
- Supplier Approval and Onboarding: Perform Supplier Assessments, Support capacity and scaling activities, setup suppliers in quality systems, support second source strategy, and assist Commodity Managers in contract reviews.
- Part/Process Qualifications: Develop APQP plan with new and existing suppliers. Monitor and participate in Design reviews, define safety and key characteristics, Control Plan, DFMEA, PFMEA, Process flow, Prototype development. Assess gages and tooling, capacity constraints, facilities, resources and capabilities. Define, review and drive PPAP requirements, 1st article verification, packaging, Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), etc.
- Supplier Audits: Proactive process, product, and QMS audits. Lead closure of audit findings and update checklists with lessons learned
- **_Support Design Release/Change: _**Support Change Control Board for new product launch and internal changes. Project manage supplier change requests and changes generated from NCR’s
- **_Process Capability Reviews: _**Support Change Control Board for new product launch and internal changes. Project manage supplier change requests and changes generated from NCR’s
- Supplier Deviation Requests: Manage Supplier Deviation Requests. Assist with production awareness and fail safes of deviations.
- **_Production Non-Conformances: _**Containment, NCR Resolution, RCA/8D Execution, and CA Validation. Initiate Charge Backs. Manage Supplier Performance Improvements Plans (PIPs)
- **_Reworks and Quality Alerts: _**Solicit Supplier rework instructions and manage execution in production. Issue quality alerts for non-conforming product.
- **_Material Tracking: _**Track MRB Offsite material replacement, rework, or Credits. Request PO’s and track replacement sub-assembly components for production.
- **_Field Service Support: _**Provide support to the field service team for supplier related failures. Review and approve quotes for repairs. Project manage 8D Execution.
- **_Other: _**Internal/External continuous improvement. Coordinate Incoming Inspections, Assist in shipping claims

- This position will be part of the Greenville based Quality team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Greenville, SC.
- You will report to the Manager of Supplier Quality and Development located in Greenville SC and collaborate with other Quality team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, CA.

Your Experience Includes:
- 10+ years’ experience within supplier quality engineering or related field
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), ISO and IATF standards
- Extensive knowledge and experience with APQP/PPAP and in applying quality tools such as SPC, 8D, root-cause analysis, etc.
- 5+ Years Working with Chassis components.
- Familiarity in welding Standards for Stainless Steel and Aluminum
- Commercial bus, heavy truck, automotive or vehicle systems design a plus.
- Vehicle body structure design and development experience a plus.
- Proficiency with standard 3D CAD software, preferably CATIA V6
- Broad range of tooling, manufacturing process and workmanship standards experience across castings, printed circuit boards and other complex assemblies.
- Understanding of automotive Class A requirements.
- Experience reviewing CAN data, proficiency with PCAN Explorer preferred.
- Experience with best-in-class manufacturing practices (Lean Manufacturing, visual management, data collection, material utilization, employee engagement, cross-training, standard work, gage R&R, calibration, etc.)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and SPC software (i.e. Minitab)
