Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive quality engineering support to Proterra’s Los Angeles Site Quality Manager and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for ensuring product and process integrity through the development and implementation of systems that support vehicle manufacturing and for activities internal and external related to process development, qualification, optimization as well as product and supplier certification in line with company protocols and objectives.

About the Role – You will:

  • Plan and direct activities pertinent to the development, application and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes; create and maintain quality documentation, such as procedures, inspection plans, work instructions, quality assurance specifications, etc.
  • Support the Production Line with Root Cause analysis and problem-solving skills; review production issues and articulate proper problem ownership of Engineering, Manufacturing and Supplier and assign Non-Conforming Reports (NCR’s) accordingly while being a catalyst for timely closure of NCR’s from various owners.
  • Present to Management the status of issues and countermeasures; participate with other stakeholders to drive more robustness in the manufacturing processes.
  • Manage the calibration of tools, gages and equipment; specify equipment required for measurement and testing.
  • Manage the timely resolution of defects found in the Material Review Board process; drive error proofing.
  • Support quality control by performing inspections, ensuring the product and process comply with relevant specifications and requirements (FMVSS, DOT, FTA, White book, etc.)
  • Work with Assembly, Product Development and Sales to ensure that customer expectations and contract requirements are met.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • This position will be part of the Los Angeles based Quality team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Los Angeles, CA.
  • You will report to the **Quality Manager, Proterra Bus Los Angeles **and collaborate with other Quality team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Greenville, SC.

Your Experience Includes:

  • ** **Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial or equivalent) or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ quality experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills supported by structured Root Cause analysis, may include the following: Kepner-Tregoe, Triz, Shainin, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the following: ISO 9001, TS 16949 quality systems, electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Auditor Experience a plus
  • Knowledge of quality and continuous improvement tools
  • Proficient computer skills that may include the following applications: Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle, Arena, CATIA
  • Experience using the following measurement tools including but not limited to gages, calipers, micrometers, optical comparators
  • Physical Demands:
    • May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
    • Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
    • Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
    • Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.
    • Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.
  • Environmental Demands:
    • Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
    • Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
    • Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.
